Secret Rooms Installed Inside Abandoned Manholes In Milan

Secret Rooms Installed Inside Abandoned Manholes In Milan

If there’s one universal and indisputable truth in this world, it’s this: secret rooms are cool and everybody wants one. Artist Biancoshock knows this, which is why he’s decided to turn these abandoned manholes in Milan’s Lodi district into hidden miniature subterranean dwellings.

Far from using his project to simply make us jealous however, Biancoshock has a much deeper motivation for his work. The purpose of the manholes is to make us think about those who are forced to live in tightly-confined spaces, and he took his inspiration from the hundreds of people who are thought to inhabit Bucharest’s sewer systems in Romania.

The three rooms comprise a series called Borderlife and each of them depicts a different domestic setting. One contains a shower and another has been transformed into a miniature kitchen complete with tiny culinary accessories.

As the artist says on his website, “If some problems can not be avoided, make them comfortable.”

Why 80% Of Your Life Probably SUCKS and How to Fix It…

Why 80% Of Your Life Probably SUCKS and How to Fix It…

Why 80% Your Life Probably SUCKS and How to Fix It…

Perhaps one of the greatest ‘disasters’ of our age is that hundreds of millions of people are content to live life with all its great potential with little or no purpose.

Instead they drift along content to live in mediocrity.

EXAMPLE:

I spoke with a guy who owns a membership website that shows people how to move to live in S/E Asia.

He has thousands of paying members and yet when I asked him:

“How many of your members have taken the plunge and moved overseas?”

He replied: “Less that 10% the rest just ‘live out their dream vicariously’ via my site”

And before you start to judge them, stop!

Because 80% of you reading these words are doing EXACTLY the same thing to one degree or another.

Deep down you long to experience things like:

  • Love
  • Romance
  • Purpose
  • Vision
  • Prosperity
  • Spirituality
  • Hope
  • Freedom
  • Forgiveness
  • Hope
  • Adventure
  • Meaningful Relationships
  • Time Freedom
  • Travel
  • Adventure
  • Destiny
  • Prosperity

But instead of doing what needs to be done, you ‘live out your dreams vicariously’ by watching some moronic, brain-cell-destroying, vision-depleting reality TV show or movie you try to find it in a bottle or at the end of a joint.

And in the meantime as John Lennon once said:

“Life is what happens while you are making plans”

I think ours is a generation that has totally forgotten that life is NOW.

Not tomorrow.

Life is Now!

Today!

So, Here’s a Question:

= = >Are you treating your life like it is a real life?<= =

For example, imagine for a moment that you were unjustly sentenced to a life in prison, you you would dream of freedom on the outside, wouldn’t you?

And I’ll bet if you had the chance to escape, you would do absolutely anything to get free.

Well guess what?

= = That job that is draining the very life out of you…

= = That abusive relationship with someone who treats you like dirt…

= = The unfit, overweight, angry, indecisive [Insert YOUR adjective here] individual you see looking back at you in the mirror, who refuses to take responsibility for his or her life…

Is in prison!

YOU are in prison.

But you do have a choice: you can keep living your dream through ‘others’ or you can escape today!

How?

You need to start treating your life like it is a real life!

If you just make that one quality decision, EVERYTHING will start to change.

– – You won’t just dream – you will act!

– – You won’t just wish you weighed less – you will start eating differently and exercising!

– – You won’t just wish you were treated better, you will establish boundaries and ‘cut people out of your life’ who ignore them and walk right over you!

– – You will start to live in the now!
– – You will start to ask better questions.
– – You will start to implement.
– – You will practice gratitude

And if you own a business, or are in a relationship you will STOP making excuses!

You will address the issues that need fixing!

And when you do, you will look back on yourself a few months from now and you will think: “Thank God I started treating my life like it was a real life!”

Now – what are 2 or 3 things YOU can start doing, acknowledging, accepting, refusing or addressing today? [so that you can look back at the man or woman in the mirror and start liking what you see].

Make The World A Better Place

Make The World A Better Place

make a difference22 Things You Can Do to Make The World A Better Place…

1. TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT PEOPLE TO TREAT YOU:

It isn’t called “The Golden Rule” for no reason. Want more friends? Be friendly.

Want to be encouraged and appreciated? Then encourage and appreciate others!

2. LOVE YOURSELF:

I have noticed it is impossible to show genuine love to others while you hate yourself.

3. FIND YOUR PURPOSE:

So many people live life with all its amazing potential with little or now purpose.

4. SEE THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE:

Once you truly understand your purpose, you will immediately see things in perspective.

5. PERSEVERE:

Once you find your purpose and see things in perspective, you will suddenly discover an amazing wellspring of strength to persevere.

6. GET A VISION:

For something much bigger than just making money. Only you can decide what it is but it needs to be something that inspires, motivates and compels you.

7. BUY NOAH ST JOHN’S “BOOK OF AFFORMATIONS”

And then implement it. It will change the way you ask questions forever. And because ‘Questions and the Answers’ you will experience an avalanche of ‘Ah Ha!’ moments.

You will experience profound clarity and you will get dozens of solutions to problems that have kept you stuck for years.

8. GET A MENTOR OR COACH:

Every successful athlete on the planet has a coach helping him or her towards their goals.

Why?

Because the right coach can help you get from A to B in less time and with a lot less stress and effort than you ever thought possible. You are NOT the exception to this rule.

NOTE: I would love to coach you IF you are teachable – contact me. 🙂

9. DITCH THE NEGATIVE:

I personally think it is impossible to focus on negative things and see positive results.

Be diligent in regards to what you see, hear and speak.

Remember the computer principle: Garbage In = Garbage Out.

10. BE A GIVER:

Stingy people are small-minded people.

We need to have money but never let money have us.

Because while money is a great servant, it is a terrible master.

11. IMPLEMENT DILIGENTLY:

Because, contrary to popular belief, the ‘Prosperity Fairy’ ISN’T going to magically appear and sprinkle you with happy dust simply because you ‘commanded the universe’ to obey your every whim and wish.

HINT: Get off you ass and work at it!

12. FOCUS:

You will never get anywhere if you try to do too many things at one time. You will simply find yourself in a place of confusion and frustration.

13. NETWORK WITH PURPOSE AND ZEAL:

Because there is an absolute ‘Gold Mine’ hidden in your network of friends and associates.

14. PRACTICE GRATITUDE:

Try this for the next 30 days… the moment you wake up think of something you can be grateful for.

Dwell on that for a few minutes.

Experts are finding that people who practice gratitude consistently report a host of benefits:

– Stronger immune systems and lower blood pressure;-
– Higher levels of positive emotions
– More joy, optimism, and happiness
– Acting with more generosity and compassion
– Feeling less lonely and isolated.

15. EAT HEALTHY & EXERCISE:

Quit eating junk food. Quit smoking. Quit seeking artificial highs and get high on life. Get enough exercise. Quit inventing excuses in this area.

16. GET ENOUGH SLEEP:

Why is getting enough sleep important?

Getting enough sleep has many benefits. It can help you:

– Get sick less often-
– Stay at a healthy weight
– Lower your risk of high blood pressure and diabetes
– Reduce stress and improve your mood
– Think more clearly and do better in school and at work
– Get along better with people
– Make better decisions

17. USE A TO DO LIST:

You will explode your productivity.

18. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY:

In life, people do one of 3 things:

1] They Lay Blame
2] They Justify
3] They Take Responsibility!

19. TAKE THE FIRST STEP:

What is it you would like to see happen? Take the first step because tomorrow never comes.

20. EDUCATE YOURSELF:

Constantly feed your mind with good information. Seek out wise people who are already doing what you would love to do and be humble enough to learn from them.

21. BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE:

Any dead fish can float downstream. It takes a live one to go against the flow.

I encourage you to BE the person that make a difference.

Don’t sit around ‘waiting for something to happen’ as life passes you by. Instead, ‘Make’ something happen.

Do what needs to be done.

Because when you do, you really will find yourself in a position to impact lives and create positive change in the world.

22: USE YOUR WORDS WISELY:

Use your words to inspire, encourage and uplift and never to condemn, hurt or destroy.

Watch you ‘Self Talk’ as most people are defeated one inch below their nose.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Choose your words with wisdom and discernment!

Making 2016 Your Best Year Ever

Making 2016 Your Best Year Ever

making 2016 your best year everThis post contains: “Unique Keys to  Making 2016 Your Best Year Ever”

My fervent hope is that as you read it, you will start to experience various walls that have held you back and kept you stuck in life, finally starting to crumble.

In fact, my goal is nothing less than helping you:

  • Stop.
  • See
  • Listen
  • Understand
  • And Respond
  • Respond with passion, vision and determination

…to the deepest cry of your heart!

And yes, I understand that is no easy task.

But with your permission, I’m going to do my very best anyway.

Because YOU are worth it!

And because I know that if you ‘don’t’ find a way to stop and listen to the cry of your heart…

Something terrible is going to happen…

You are going to spend yet ANOTHER 12 months of your life going round and round the mountain.

Another 12 months worried about this, that and the other.

FACT: if you are like most people, the cry of your heart is often lost in the midst of the busyness of life.

But NOT today!

choosing the right business coachWith my help, today is THE day that you stop ignoring the cry of your heart.

That still, small voice that keeps whispering in your ear: “You deserve so much better than this!”

And yes, I am totally serious.

==> Today can be the day that you begin to heal your life, change the way you think about yourself, and start feeling more optimistic in regards to your future than you ever thought possible…

==> Today can be the day that someone steps alongside you and shows you how to break free from past hurts and disappointments…

==> Today can be the day that you decide: I am going finally do something about making my dreams a reality.

Stop and Think: What Has Held You Back Until Now?

The problem for many of us, is that our upbringing, our home environment, our education and the false messages society has fed us in all combine to make many of the most vital keys to freedom invisible to the us.

But it hasn’t stopped the cry of your heart!

Your heart still longs for things like:

  • Knowing and fulfilling your purpose in life
  • Letting go of past hurts
  • Living life on your terms
  • Experiencing genuine fun
  • Knowing genuine financial freedom
  • Making a genuine difference in the world

But lets be honest, you haven’t known how to get these things.

Before you think I am blaming you. I’m not.

It isn’t for want of trying.

God knows, many of you have spent a small fortune trying to find traction! You have invested in so many different courses it is amazing your brain hasn’t exploded.

But there is always ‘something’ dragging you back.

– – It might be your beliefs about money.

– – It might be that your marketing sucks.

show me what to do

– – And this is a HUGE one… it might be that you have NEVER had anyone come alongside you, take you by the hand and actually show you what to do.

Because once someone who ‘has already done what you want to do’ steps alongside you and hands the right solutions…

  • Situations…
  • Circumstances…
  • Challenges…
  • And Problems…

That previously seemed utterly impossible, totally insurmountable and completely hopeless, are suddenly child’s play.

I’m sure you have seen a magician sawing a woman in half on the stage?

Looked totally impossible right?

But IF they explained exactly how they did it, then it is no longer a mystery.

And with that in mind…

Will you do something for me?

Listen to your heart

And just in case you are stuck, here is a list of 7 different things for you.

See if any of these makes you feel something…

5 Reasons You Need a Vision in Life and Business…

5 Reasons You Need a Vision in Life and Business…

Chris Bloor BlogThe Vital Importance of Vision…

I have noticed that almost without exception every truly successful business owner that I have ever met in my life is driven by something bigger than simply making money.

They have a vision a burning desire to do something significant with their lives. They are determined to make a difference.

SIDEBAR: There are of course exceptions to this – business owners whose only goal seems to be to accumulate the most expensive toys. In my experience [and I have met several people like this] they are generally quite lonely people. This is because while money makes a great servant, it is a terrible master.

5 Compelling Reasons Why You Need a Vision in Life and Business

1. Having a Vision Connects You to Purpose which in turn makes it easier for you to  you see things in perspective and find meaning in life.

2. Having a Vision [and seeing things in perspective] Helps You to Persevere because keeping your purpose in mind, helps keep you motivated even when the going gets tough.

People all around you might be losing their way but your vision can keep you keeping on long after others have quit.

3. Direction! Having a Vision Keeps You True to Yourself. You are much less likely to adopt someone else’s dream for your life [no matter how sincere and well-meaning they are] when you are aligned with a heart-centered vision of your own.

4.  Having a Vision Helps You Stop Going Around in Circles or drifting along in life. I think the tragedy of our age is that so many are content to live life with all its great potential with little or no purpose. Vision changes that.

5. Having a Vision Opens Doors That Otherwise Would Have Remained Forever Closed, Locked and Bolted. There is something about having a vision that opens doors for you in both life and business. Introductions take place, friendships are made and strategic alliances happen all because you have vision.

6. Having a Vision Compels You to Take Responsibility for Your Life and Business.  You quit ‘Laying Blame’ ‘Justifying’ or looking for excuses and start doing what needs to be done.

7. Having a Vision Adds Value to Everything! Your relationships, your health, your peace of mind, your perspective, your sense of purpose, direction and fulfillment in life are all influenced and impacted as a direct result of you having a specific vision for your life and business.

But… how do you get a vision in the first place?

We will cover that in part two…

Donald Trump Attacks Caroline Kennedy

Donald Trump Attacks Caroline Kennedy

Donald Trump is back in another day of hurling insults, yet bafflingly, the billionaire businessman continues to lead the GOP pack.

From likening Mexican immigrants to “rapists” and calling John McCain a “dummy” and dubbing Karl Rove as “a total loser,” Trump continues to broadcast his opinion on everything and everyone and has no problems courting controversy.

The latest in his firing line is Caroline Kennedy, who he attacked in a cover story for the latest issue of The Economist.

Of her role as ambassador to Japan, Trump said of the daughter of assassinated President John F. Kennedy: “Who is our chief negotiator (in Japan)? Essentially it is Caroline Kennedy. I mean give me a break. She doesn’t even know she’s alive.”

Ouch!

Kennedy is not the first woman to feel the wrath of his tongue. One of the most famous to date was the war of words with Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who he accused of having “blood coming out of her wherever” after she questioned him during a GOP primary debate. Those two have onlyjust settled their beef with one another.

The 69-year-old’s remark about Kennedy, however, has drawn criticism from Marcy Stech, spokeswoman for EMILY’s List, a Democratic political action committee.

“Donald Trump has disqualified himself as someone who respects women,” she said. “Trump’s misogynistic slurs are met with blank stares and shoulder shrugs from his fellow GOP hopefuls — that’s because Trump’s outrageous and offensive rhetoric is reflected in the policies embraced by the entire Republican field.”

But will any of Trump’s comments that pertain to women have any impact upon his race for the White House?

Chris-Bloor-BlogChris Bloor, one of Australia’s Leading Direct Response Marketing Experts, believes so.

“Everything Trump says generates attention. He’s an amazing marketer and knows how to grab headlines, but it’s for all the wrong reasons.”

Bloor, regarded as one of the very best ‘Emotional Direct- Response Copywriters’ in the English-speaking world, adds: “No one really takes what he says seriously and it’s pretty obvious to all, that he is totally ignorant to the issues that a presidential hopeful really needs to address.

He may be leading in the polls but when decision time comes, America will use their smarts and opt for someone who can lead them to prosperity, not someone who just wants the job for their own egotistical purposes.”

Currently, a NBC News/Marist poll puts the Trump 16 percentage points ahead of his closest competitor, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and has 28 percent of likely Republican voters backing him.

So will he get the backing of America, especially women voters? Only time will tell.

Red CarpetWhy Your Life is a Movie and How to Make it a Really Good One…

Imagine with me for a moment that your life is a movie and you are the director and lead actor.

What kind of a film are you making?

What role do you play?

The part of your movie that looks at your business, what would it be like?

Would it focus on an individual with a ‘burning desire’ to succeed?

Or would it portray somebody who never really took things seriously?

Would it show you just drifting along year after year caught in a never-ending loop of mediocrity?

Or would it show you breaking free, standing tall and leaving your mark in the world?

And the other cast members [your family, friends and clients] what would they say about you?

FACT: You only get to appear on the stage of life for a very brief moment in time.

And when it is all said and done, what would the credits say?

Would they talk about the good you did, the difference you made and the grateful folk you left behind?

Or would they say:

  • He or she never really stood up to the plate and took responsibility for their business.
  • They just drifted along in life.
  • No vision.
  • No consistent action.
  • Very little results.
  • They knew deep in their heart that they needed help. They were just to lazy or proud or distracted to reach out and ask for it…

Your life IS just like a movie.

What are you doing to make it really worth seeing?

What do we REALLY need to teach the next generation?

What do we REALLY need to teach the next generation?

Emma SargentI recently spoke on (is it ‘on’, ‘at’, ‘in’?) an online conference. Anyway, grammar aside, I was interviewed for the online conference “The Confident Mother” and was invited to speak because of our interest in the entrepreneurial teen. (You may know that we have taken our two to the USA a couple of times to entrepreneurs’ conferences – lucky things). Indeed – that was the title of the interview – The Entrepreneurial Teen.

As I was preparing for the interview a few things occurred to me, in that “lightbulb moment” type way.

Yes, Tim and I are extremely interested in teaching the skills of being able to start and build your own business (if that’s what is now commonly referred to as an entrepreneur) to our children, but actually it’s about much more than that.

What’s really important to us, personally, is that people have choice in their lives; that they have the skills and qualities needed to allow them to make the choices that are right for them and they want to make. It doesn’t matter what that choice is.

So let’s look beyond the business ‘how to’ just for the moment and look at what qualities and skills we need to have choice throughout our lives.

It occurred to me that the qualities that we need to be instilling in our children, whether they want to start their own business or be a lawyer, actor, accountant, butcher, banker, whatever… are the very qualities that you need to be an entrepreneur.

And of course it’s particularly important that we keep working on these ourselves; we are all work in progress, after all.

So what are they? Here’s a few of the big ones:

  • Knowing what you want and setting goals – self-motivation

We can encourage this in our children and teens by doing vision boards with them; cut out pictures of what they want in their lives and keep going back to it.

  • Doing what it takes to get what you want – persistence

We have a culture of ‘entitlement’ that is damaging the future generation. They are learning that you can have things on credit before you’ve earned anything and don’t really understand the consequences. They have to learn that they need to be prepared to work for what they want.   So, give pocket money or an allowance for helping at home, rather than just for existing, and the ability to earn extra for extra work. And suggest that you will match what they earn for big things.

  • Understanding that failure is inevitable on the path to success – resilience

This is such a big one. Most of us struggle with the concept of failure being ok. We all fail in small ways all the time; but if we see it like that it will grind us down. Being able to learn from mistakes and move on is vital.

As parents we often protect our children from making mistakes and learning from the natural consequences of that mistake. “Mum, I’ve left my gym kit at home” – how many times have I dropped it in?! Well, that’s not helping anyone. Protecting our children from getting into trouble does not help to build up their independence and resilience, so think again before you hop in the car.

  • Being able to ask for something – self-confidence and communication

We are all selling all the time; yourself, an idea, a product. You can’t NOT communicate, so you may as well do it well. Teach your children to speak to adults, to communicate with people that are not on Facebook, and talk to them without their phones attached to them! Have I already told you that my cousin recently got a job that had had 200 applicants? And the reason she got it? She was THE ONLY ONE who looked the interviewer in the eye and shook their hand; yes, THE ONLY ONE.   Personally, we think that all teenagers should learn how to sell properly.

  • An interest in learning about all sorts of things – curiosity, problem solving and continual improvement.

People who succeed in life are life long learners, always searching for some kind of improvement and for that we need to instill curiosity and openness in our children. Expose them to interesting people and stories of success if you can; share good news stories and go and find out about things together.

Of course we also need to teach them all sorts of practical skills that I won’t go into today for fear of going on and on! Perhaps another time.

We’d love to hear how you ‘educate’ your teens to develop these skills. Please leave a comment below.

Are You Doing Enough of This?

Emma Sargent Extraordinary Coaching Company
Emma Sargent

This week I had a private mentoring session with Chris who shared some incredible insights with me.

If we don’t get enormous return on that investment then we are muppets. And I prefer not to think of us as muppets (although I do do a pretty mean Miss Piggy to be honest!)

Anyway, he shared some pretty amazing statistics that surprised me.

Get this:

48% of sales people never follow up with a prospect

This is of course shocking but not surprising.

A friend of mine decided he wanted to take up CrossFit. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it is yet another fitness craze that has arrived here from across the pond. Those who qualify to train CrossFit have invested £thousands in setting up their gyms. So imagine how surprised he was when he called all 6 of the CrossFit trainers in London near him and NOT A SINGLE ONE called back. NOT ONE!

Why would you start a business and not follow up an incoming enquiry?????

So we continue:

25% of sales people make a second contact and stop

12% of sales people make more than three contacts

“I don’t want to hassle them”

“If they want it they will buy”

Well it seems they won’t….please read on for the most surprising stats of all…

2% of sales are made on the first contact

3% of sales are made on the second contact

5% of sales are made on the third contact

10% of sales are made on the fourth contact

80% of sales are made on the fifth to twelfth contact!!!

Just look at the jump between the fourth and fifth contacts.

In fact I had a great example myself this week. I go to a fantastic networking group in London – it’s a dinner and at every dinner we all get to say what we do to the whole group. I’ve been going for 2 years and have been to about 12 dinners.

At the last event we were invited to actually make a pitch to the group. We had 6 minutes.

I sold £4,500 of consulting, and the promise of more, in what was actually less than 5 minutes – all to people who had met me multiple times.

All of whom are certain that I can help leverage their expertise, are satisfied that my passion for helping them to increase their income and reach to their customers is real, and are excited about my ability to spot the gaps that they can’t spot. All because I have “followed up” multiple times.

So are you doing enough sales follow up?

Or are you leaving money on the table every day of the week?

That reminds me….I’m off to follow up the people who were interested but didn’t commit……

Do You Know Your Ideal Client?

Do You Know Your Ideal Client?

Do you know your ideal client… even when you see them? Your ideal client is much different from your typical client. How?

Your typical client NEEDS what you sell, and your ideal client WANTS what you sell. That difference is huge. Prospects may or may not buy what they need, but they always buy what they want. If you know how to find your ideal client, you can literally dominate your market.

What you need to know…

Prospects buy based on emotions, and wants are emotion-based. Needs are logic-based. When your product or service matches what your prospects specifically wants, you will immediately begin to attract your ideal client.

Why do you need to know this? Your ideal client makes you the most money. In fact, for most business owners… 80% of your entire revenue is generated by only 20% of your clients. Those are your ideal clients. They love you and what you provide to them. They buy from you and you alone. They’re loyal and will never leave you. They are your best source for referrals and they give great testimonials.

Think about this for a moment. A mere 20% of your clients are responsible for 80% of your total business revenue. What if you could replace that remaining 80% of unproductive clients with more of your 20% clients? Do you realize your income would explode by 16 times?

If your revenues right now total $50,000 annually, you have the potential to increase your revenue by an additional $750,000 or more!

Can you afford to continue to watch this much additional revenue fall into your competitor’s coffers?

All Behavior Has A Positive Intention

All Behavior Has A Positive Intention

Emma Sargent
Emma Sargent

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of doing something – you’re having a bit of a struggle – and you suddenly remember something (yes, I know, two ‘somethings’ – vocabulary shortfall) that, if you’d remembered it earlier, you’d never have had to struggle in the first place? Now, I’m not talking about IKEA and assembly instructions; I’m talking about something (that’s three!) that happened to me the other day.

There I was running a workshop with the senior managers in one of our lovely client’s businesses. They’re a smashing lot and technically highly competent, but I was getting a tad frustrated.

You see, the reason that I was there was to start the process of building them up to the point where they can take the reins of the business so that our clients, if they so choose, can move on to other things. And that involves asking them to step up to the mark as leaders of the people in the business.

Trouble is, and I know they won’t mind me saying this, the owners have somewhat molly coddled their team over the years. They’re such lovely people and they’ve done pretty much everything they can to make things good for their staff. It’s a bit like walking into a family get together with an absolutely wonderful Mum and Dad.

But, as all we parents know, there comes a time when the kids have to leave and make their own way in the world.

So, whilst I was being highly enthusiastic about the opportunities that are going to be coming this team’s way in the new world, they appeared to be slightly less than motivated. When we talked about the need to become more proactive as leaders and start doing the things that good leaders do, like sitting down and having meaningful conversations with the members of their teams, I am met with the cry, ‘Good idea, but we just don’t have time.’

When we talked about getting themselves and their teams more informed about the progress and direction of the business, ‘They don’t want to know about that’, is the response that I got.

Now you and I know that if something (that’s four) is important enough, we will make sure that we do it. Unless…

We are lacking in confidence; we are frightened; we don’t think we have the skill to do it; we’re worried about what other people might say; we’ve never done anything like it before and we don’t like NEW; and we don’t like CHANGE. And that, my friends, is exactly the issue I discovered here.

And I discovered it because it was then that I remembered…and the memory dispelled my frustration.

I remembered that (and anyone of you reading this who has any background or knowledge of NLP, will know exactly what I am going to say)…

‘All behaviour has a positive intention’

Everything we do has, lying behind it, an intention that is entirely positive for us otherwise we wouldn’t do it! Sure, sometimes it’s difficult to work out what it is but it’ll be there, mark my words.

And what can we do with this knowledge?

We can apply it to ourselves:

  • What’s in it for me by NOT doing some of the things that I know you need to do to drive my business or career forward?
  • What’s in it for me when I procrastinate?
  • What’s the positive intention that lies behind me not putting my head above the parapet and telling the world to take notice?

I could go on…

We can apply it to anyone in our life – partners, friends, colleagues, customers and clients.

  • What’s in it for them when they do the things that they do or don’t do?

And if I may ask one thing of you…

When you next meet behaviour that triggers a less than positive response in you, take a moment to pause before you react and find out what lies behind it. It’s time well spent.

And so, I get where those managers are coming from. I’m just glad that I remembered in time.

How to Change Your Behaviour

How to Change Your Behaviour

Emma Sargent
Emma Sargent

It’s no joke the stuff we do that gets in the way of our success. We see it all the time with our clients – how small things can stop us really achieving what we want.

Have you got any habits that get in your way?

You know the type of thing – spending too much time on Facebook, getting distracted, managing your time poorly. What moi?!

Well, if that’s you, read on….I learnt something the other day that is CRUCIAL to changing habits and making the change stick. It’s a really easy tip to follow if you want to learn how to change your behaviour.

This technique is so simple, you will love it; and it is based on research from NASA so it comes with great credentials.

The NASA research was on how astronauts would deal with zero gravity – of course one of the side effects of zero gravity is that you spin around and go upside down. So some of the astronauts in training were required to wear goggles that flipped their vision upside down. They had to wear the goggles constantly for 30 days.

Something amazing happened…. At between 25 and 30 days the astronauts’ brains flipped their vision the right way up again. New neural pathways had been developed so that they could see ‘properly’. Annoyingly for them, it then took another 25-30 days for their brains to flip their vision around again once they had stopped wearing the goggles, which must have been horrible.

Here’s the even more amazing part, and the bit that is CRUCIAL if you want your brain to develop new neural pathways to help you function differently…

In a slightly different experiment, the astronauts removed the goggles for 24 hours on Day 15. When did their new neural pathways develop? 25-30 days AFTER day 15. In other words, they had to start the whole thing again.

What does this mean for us?

It means that to really develop a new habit you need to focus on it for 30 consecutive days. Yes, it takes 30 days to reprogramme your unconscious mind. Just breaking that new habit once – yes, just once – puts you right back to the beginning.

So when you want to do something differently, focus on it EVERY DAY for 30 DAYS without a single day off – even just visualizing the new behaviour can work.

ACTION: What behaviour do YOU want to change?

Try something that will just take 15 minutes per day.

Choose something that will be useful to your business like writing a blog post, creating some marketing copy, listening to a guided meditation, analyzing figures (choose ONE!)

Be specific and realistic, make a plan and do it every day for 30 days.

After 30 days you will have developed new neural pathways that make that behaviour habitual.

Single Mom going through a really rough patch.

Now anyone who knows me will tell you that I am an encourager.

I just can’t stand to see friends going through a hard time and not reach out to encourage them.

And so I asked her: “Tell me how you see your future?”

Her response was heartbreaking:

“I’ll probably meet some other guy who will cheat on me in a couple of years and I’ll end up in an even worse mess than I am today”

“Lets face it – nobody is going to want me. I have so much baggage – plus a couple of kids”

I sat there utterly amazed.

At first I hardly knew what to say let alone where to begin.

And so I took a few moments to gather my thoughts and this is what I said to her:

Would You Rather Be Popular or Successful?

Would You Rather Be Popular or Successful?

7 Irrefutable Laws to Becoming Successfully Popular

Entrepreneurs, authors and marketers often ask should they focus on being popular or being successful? Most often quip the answer, “both” to that question. However, when considering the integration of advertising-PR-marketing-branding, it’s a bit more complicated than that.

AYB PR vs Ad

Maybe a better question would be, “Which comes first…being popular or successful?”

If you are unfortunate enough to be on a reality show, you may be popular first and leverage your 15 minutes of PR and fame into some version of success later (unlikely, but possible). For the majority of entrepreneurs, business owners, marketers and speakers, success comes before public relations, PR or branding.

Popularity is when others talk about you. On a basic level, this is as simple as a referral. For the enlightened entrepreneur, it’s a PR campaign of social media, broadcast media mentions and referral-based conversations. The reason a person becomes popular is because of their story…a story of success or overcoming adversity. Without a compelling story, why should anyone care? Why should I take my valuable time to read about your uninteresting life or business?

“Oh, you were bankrupt and homeless, then became a millionaire?”

Good for you…it’s an old story being told by much better well known figures.

“Wow…you were divorced, depressed and out of work, then found your passion?”

Yawn…heard that one a thousand times.

There is a clear path to positioning your PR and message so you can actually stand out. There is a formula that, when followed well, can make even make a day-to-day existence into an compelling message one can use to motivate people to action (translation=buy your stuff).

Like all rules, there is an exception. Some of the most wildly successful people have made millions of dollars and impacted millions of people before accomplishing anything significant on a personal level. Their success was based on “reporting” on the success of others. Nearly all journalists establish their credibility and authority through their position. Using them and their PR to your advantage is as old as the Sun.

Napoleon Hill, author of Think & Grow Rich, was a reporter and wasn’t even paid to create his masterpiece book. His success was due to his compilation of success principles he learned while researching and publishing his book. He leveraged the book and his foundation continues to flourish to this day.

Oprah Winfrey, TV host, took over a low-rated morning show in Chicago. Within a few years, her syndicated show would transform her brand into an international empire of movies, magazines, books and media. The “Oprah effect” is a term coined by many publishers today including Inc. magazine.

If you take the route of reporting on success, embrace it. If you are not a reporter, get to know a few.

If you have a compelling story, a product that can transform lives or a “triumph over tragedy” message, it’ll be up to you to craft it intelligently for the media and PR machine.

Regardless if you are positioning yourself as the reporter or the story, be sure to follow these following foundational principles in order to go from obscurity to notoriety. When you keep these factors in mind and apply them consistently, your marketing and PR becomes effortless and you can transform your outbound efforts (email, social media, advertising, speaking, trade shows, etc.) into inbound order processing where people contact you.

  1. Conversations vs. monologues. Position your product or service as a conversation. Ask questions. Take surveys. Don’t assume your product or service is the best. What if it’s not? What if your competitors really do make a better mousetrap? If you aren’t vulnerable enough to poll your audience, the only person you are fooling is yourself.
  2. Nanocast vs. broadcast. Most entrepreneurs dream big. While that is admirable, marketing to the world is impossible and targeting women 35-55 is a marketing death sentence. (Do you really think you can compete with Good Housekeeping?) Your press release can target any size audience and make a difference. Seth Godin once commented that entrepreneur can make a six-figure income with a list of 1,000 people.
  3. Storytelling vs. story selling. Nobody likes to be sold…ever. We all love stories, however. While going to the movies is a great form of entertainment, most major cultural shifts, political upheavals and disruptive new products or trends are told through a story. Mastering your PR story is vital to communicating and garnering a loyal following. I encourage my non-fiction authors to study fiction and visa versa. People hate to be sold, but they love to buy.
  4. Advertising vs. PR. As the photo included in this article clearly demonstrates, advertising isn’t the same as public relations. No successful business flourishes without both, but rarely does a start-up have the budget for a proper advertising, marketing, PR, public relations and a branding program. Companies with shoestring budgets are well known for leveraging viral or referral-based programs. One of my all time favorites is Dollar Shave Club. In a hilarious, near-stream-of-consciousness-style monologue, founder Michael Dublin extolled the virtues of Dollar Shave Club and it was an instant hit. DSC is a private company and hasn’t released any revenue numbers, but it does have over 200,000 customers due in no small part to this brilliant video, with over 17 million views.[youtube id=”ZUG9qYTJMsI” height=”353″ width=”574″ marginbottom=”15″]
  5. Leverage vs. linear. When marketers hear, “You must be on Facebook.” or “If you aren’t doing video, you are missing the boat.” We all nod our heads in agreement. However, smart marketers integrate their message and media to maximize the output. Does your tweet need to be on Facebook? Maybe. Should your blog post be featured on Linkedin? Possibly. Whatever channels you use in your messaging, be sure to leverage them across as many modalities as possible. Tweet your blog, transcribe your podcast and post your videos on Youtube and Facebook. Use well-written press releases to increase your expert status. The more times you are seen, the better.
  6. Integrate vs. interrupt. With so many choices of channels, many entrepreneurs are overwhelmed. Instead of selecting your channels and integrating them based on what you like, consider where your customers are going and start conversations on their turf. You many not understand Instagram, but if your audience is there, you need to be there, also. When you do select your channels, be sure to refer to #1…converse, don’t pontificate.
  7. Quality of your referrals. As the photo illustrates, who is talking about you is critical. When a neighbor refers you business, that’s a good thing. When your Pinterest image is shared to a new group of 1,000 people, that’s great. When your story is published in the Wall Street Journal, that’s akin to the lottery for many entrepreneurs. Many people hope or “try” to garner high-quality PR and referrals, but as Chris Bloor, Bob Burg or any other integrity-based marketers will tell you, the best way to get referrals is to give them out first….selflessly. Do that enough and to the right people and your marketing will become effortless.

There are more than 7 laws, of course. I outlined these 7 because without these as the foundation, all the advertising, marketing, branding and PR in the world will continue to keep you stalled, ineffective and relatively unknown.

When you consistently apply the 7 laws above you’ll become popular and successful. This combination will tip your outbound marketing efforts into effortless, inbound order taking before you know it.

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me… [Part 3 Leaving School and Living Rough]

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me… [Part 3 Leaving School and Living Rough]

angry stepfatherThe Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me… [Part 3 Leaving School and Living Rough]

I knew my Stepfather would be at work and so I went home and packed my rucksack. I took 5 tins of baked beans and my pillow and some clothes… [Nowhere near enough clothes].

I remember pushing my key through the letterbox and thinking to myself: “I’m just a kid. This shouldn’t be happening to me.”

And I went out into the big wide world. Then it struck me… I had nowhere to go.

Plus I only had $20 and that wasn’t going to last long.

I thought about the Careers Guidance guy a my school just a month earlier and how I had told him: “I am unemployable.” And at the same moment I realized… my school days were over.

==>No point going to school when you have no place to live.

Suddenly I remembered I didn’t have my guitar and went home to grab it.

It was about 10.15 am and I had an idea to make money!

After picking up my guitar, I caught the bus into the city of Perth and walked into the Hay Street Mall.

I must have looked a terrible site. Scruffy hair – badly creased clothes from a night laying in the boat.

To be honest, the very last thing in the world that I wanted to do was stand in the street and sing to a bunch of strangers as they walked by.

But that is what I did.

I put my hat at my feet, closed my eyes… and started to sing at the top of my voice!

I only knew about 3 songs so I sang them over and over and by that afternoon, I had made $18.73 cents!

It was surreal.

I sat in the dining room at Coles Cafeteria and looked at all the coins and thought: “At least I won’t starve!”

But then I had a really horrible thought: Where in the world was I going to sleep that night?

I discovered that as a 14 year old kid no one was willing to rent me a room. I spent my first night sleeping rough. It was one of the most horrible experiences of my entire life…

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me… [Part 2 Leaving Home]

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me… [Part 2 Leaving Home]

angry stepfatherSo there I was, unable to swim and yet knowing if I went back to the shore I would die anyway.

I remembered seeing people swim on their backs and I just kicked my feet and moved my arms and started going further and further out into the river.

I could hear my Stepfather shouting at me: “Come back! Just you wait till you come back! Come back I going to drown you like a stinking rat!”

NOTE: Over the years, the utter irony of his words and total LACK of incentive has struck me as very stupid.

But at the time, all I could think was: “I’m going to die and I’m only 14”

Then I felt my head hit something in the water. It was a small boat anchored about 70 feet out from the shore. I grabbed a hold of the side and pulled myself into the boat. I hid under the tarpaulin.

I know it is ridiculous looking back but at the time, I was convinced that if I moved or made even the slightest of sounds, he would somehow hear me and swim out to drown me.

Eventually I fell asleep. I woke in the morning about 8am hungry and very thirsty from the heat.

I looked out and my heart sank.

The tide was in and the water looked so deep!

It was one thing to have made it to the boat under the power of adrenaline but now in the light of day I was TOTALLY stuck.

The feeling of despair was overwhelming. And then I saw a couple of guys in a fishing boat about 90 feet away.

I started waving at them and shouting and a few minutes later they were moving towards me.

They asked me what I was doing and how I got there. They were amazed when I told them I couldn’t swim and took me to the shore.

I remember one of them asked if I was hungry and handed me $20 [a LOT of money for a kid back then]

So there I was, standing on the shore, $20 in hand – my clothes creased and wondering:

“What the heck do I do now?”

One thing was sure. I had to leave home. I knew I could never risk going back.

I looked at the $20 all the money I had in the world… and thought: “I’d better spend this wisely…”

[Continued in Part 3]

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me…

The Night My Stepfather Tried to Drown Me…

angry stepfather[Part 1 The Importance of Doing What You Love]It was November in 1974. I was only 14 years old and was sat across the desk speaking to the ‘Career Guidance Officer’ at my high school.

Him: “So tell me Chris, what kind of job do you want to do when you leave school?”

Me: “Actually Sir, I don’t want a job. I’m going to work for myself.”

The look on his face was UTTERLY priceless.

Him: “This is a serious interview lad – not a joke – now tell me what job you want to have? And don’t worry – there are several you can choose from… you could be a welder, plumber, carpenter, cook…”

Me: “Please Sir. I am unemployable.”

Him: “Why? are you and imbecile? lazy? stupid? This is NOT a joke boy!”

Me: “No sir it was just that I read a book and the man owned a business and he explained that in general, poor people work for wages but business owners work for profits. And he said he knew when he was a kid that he was totally unemployable. Well Sir, now I know that too.”

SIDEBAR: The poor guy tried his very best to persuade me of all the risks involved in starting a business – how most of them go broke and very few survive.

I pointed out that it made even less sense for me to relay on someone else as an employee.

His closing words to me were: “Unless you wake up and smell the roses you will never get anywhere in life. Don’t be an idiot – get a job!”

====> Fast Forward to December 24th [a Tuesday night] I was stood feeling terrified as my Stepfather started laying into my Mum.

It got to the point where he was dragging her across the floor by her hair and stomping on her stomach. Suddenly, something snapped inside me.

I grabbed a vase and smashed it as hard as I could on his shoulder.

And talk about jumping out of the frying pan into the fire…

He was absolutely furious with rage – knocked me senseless and said: “I’m going to drown you!”

He dragged me into the car and drove to the local river,

I was feeling numb both from the punch in the head he had given me and from the ‘abject terror’ that came with the realization that I was about to die by drowning.

Anyway, he dragged me out of the car and out into the river until the water was about 3 feet deep.

And then he shoved me under the water.

If I live to be 100 I will never forget the feeling of absolute determination to live that flooded my heart, mind and body at that moment.

I struggled as hard as I could but it was useless.

He was much stronger than me.

And then it happened…

My feet struck up against a rock in the water and I immediately pushed against it with all my might and he had to let go.

Then I had another problem.

I couldn’t swim…

Kidney for saleThe power of seeing things in perspective…

I honestly think people complain too much.  Especially business people.

They gripe and moan and whinge about the most stupid things.

And they worry too. As if worrying about anything can change it.

I have observed that in life, people do one of three things:

1. They ‘Justify’

2. They ‘Lay Blame’

3. They ‘Take Responsibility’

Anyway, earlier tonight I was reading a blog when I saw the guy’s request in the image attached to this post.

And it made me stop and reflect that perhaps the things that I feel tempted to complain about, just perhaps they are not that terrible after all.

The Competitor With Sour Grapes

The Competitor With Sour Grapes

sourgrapesNOTE: This Post Was Originally from 2006

Just the other week a competitor [SEO Guru] went to the trouble of sending me an ‘empty’ vinigar bottle in the mail [along with a rambling letter explaining why he was not going to pay me the $60,000 in affiliate payments I had earned by promoting his top-secret, build-sites-for-Adsense subscription website software].

What made it particularly heartbreaking was that the money was set aside for an orphanage in India.

An ‘Empty’ Vinegar bottle? Strange huh?

It will make a great story to ’show and tell’ at our various seminars 🙂

Anyway, It reminded me about a true story I read when I was about 9 years old…

THE AMAZING ‘BERLIN WALL’ STORY…

It was about something that happened in the Cold War.

The Berlin Wall stood like an ‘Iron Curtain’ seperating east from west. It was a symbol of fear.

One night the Communist East Germans dumped a load of rotting garbage over the West German side of the wall.

The West Germans gave a lot of thought as to how they should respond to this gesture.

The following evening, they left their own ‘gift’ over the East German side of the wall.

  • Medicine-for-children
  • Much needed clothing
  • Books about freedom
  • Blankets to keep out the cold
  • Food to nourish the body
  • Music to inspire and uplift
  • Hand written messages of friendship and peace

And… a very simple note that read:

—–EACH GIVES WHAT HE CAN!——

I have never forgotten the story.

It has stayed with me for thirty six and a half years now.

I was vividly reminded of it this week when this ‘disgruntled’ competitor send me something that was his ‘gift’ in the mail.

And I knew that I had to rise above the anger and emotions that just wanted to smack the guy in the head.

Then I had a brainwave. I would NOT react. I would respond.

You can see the gift(s) that I just posted to him in the pictures below…

First, I got them a really HUGE card:

HUGECard

Then I bought them a few small gifts such as…

australian-hat-corks
An Australian Bush Hat
vegemite
A Jar of Australia’s Favorite Spread – Vegemite!

boomerang

Followed by a Genuine Australian Aboriginal Throwing Boomerang!

CD
A CD of Australian Country Singer, John Williams!

TinyGrab Screen Shot 9-11-2014 7.36.39 pm
An Aussie G’Day Mate! Sign to sick in their office or car window!

Oh and did I mention:

  • Books
  • Business Magazines
  • Postcards
  • Flash Sticks
  • Keyboard and Mouse
  • Aussie Flag
  • Soft Toys
  • Greetings Cards (We have our own range so I sent a complete set)

But there was one problem…

Fitting Everything into the Suitcase!

suitcase1

But we got there in the end 🙂

suitcase2

And then I posted the whole thing ‘Airmail’ to the USA.

Why did I do this? After all – the guy had ripped me off $60,000 and worse still, he knew 100% that it was set aside for orphans.

Here’s why:

Life is much too short to let anything or anyone sidetrack you.

There is just too much to achieve – too many people to meet – too many lives to impact too much potential to waste even a split-second of your precious time getting caught up in negative attitudes.

In retrospect, I am very thankful that my competitors sent me such a ‘thoughtful’ gift.

Because it brought this precious story from my childhood days back to my mind.

I also looked inside myself and saw a better response.

I’m thankful that I have no time for junk. No time for strife. I will make the $60,000 again and more – many times over.

The individual who spent my affiliate commissions taking his wife and kids on expensive trips to Europe and who told me “I have spent the money!” And then sent me an empty vinegar bottle…

Crikey!

He has lost way more than $60,000 because you see, there is no amount of money in this world worth more than having integrity.

A wise man once said; “Life is like a tube of toothpaste – outward pressure brings out the inward contents!”

Best of all – it reminded me that it really is true…

Understanding the Power of Afformations

Understanding the Power of Afformations

Noah St John Audio Afformations
Noah St John

About a year ago a friend in one of my Facebook Groups told me about and American bloke, Noah St John and his Audio Afformations.

He was banging on about how Noah  had discovered a new way to experience success in life and in business.

At first I was very skeptical.

You see…

I am an Aussie and we are not easily moved by hype.

But I thought: “What the heck – nothing ventured – nothing gained” and I bought them.

I popped on a set of headphones and to be honest, just listened to them as ‘background noise’ as I sat writing copy.

I didn’t really even pay that much attention to them.

And then, about 20 minutes later, I stopped to make myself a cup of coffee and… suddenly it hit me.

Wham!

Crikey!

Stone the crows!

What can only be described as a river of ideas started flowing into my head. I didn’t know whether to freak out and go hide under the bed or be thankful and just go with the flow.

I started typing out ideas like  a demented popcorn machine on steroids.

11 months later and just a handful of the ideas from that first day have helped me start Facebook Groups that have attracted almost 8,000 business owners from scores of nations around the world.

And to be honest, since them i have only listened to Noah’s Audio Afformations for about 20 minutes at a time once a month.

Anymore than that and it does my head in. I literally get too many good ideas!

Now I could get all scientific on you and try to explain why afformations make affirmations look like a dogs breakfast and why if you want to see outstanding breakthroughs in your life, your relationships and your business, you should definitely give them a try.

But instead, I’ll just leave you with this thought… I reckon this Afformation stuff is so powerful that if you just give it a go, you are going to wake up one day and find yourself networking like a ninja, persuading like a pro, strategizing like a military general and… leaving your competition crying like a baby for its rattle!
